Under Bed Tank
After many a mile driving the truck I was ready to get the fuel tank out of the cab. One, to make room for a better seat and two, to add some fuel capacity. Unfortunately for us 60-62 Chevy truckers there isn't much out there in the way of a kit to do this. This is due to the chassis difference from following years. I didn't want to spend the cash for a custom tank, but I was determined to get what I wanted somehow. I bought the 21 gallon tank kit for the 63 and up truck from Classic Performance. This is a replacement tank for the early Blazer I think. The kit came with the correct sending unit, straps and hardware. A good start, but I had to come up with the rest. My other requirement was to not have the fill in the bed. I came up with a way to get it filled without having to add a fuel door in the side (if it works). Filling it from below the tailgate could be a problem being so close to the top of the tank. So far it's worked pretty well, but it will back up if you fill it too fast. I just have to be a little patient for the last 5 gallons. My backup plan was to put the fill tube in vertical next to a rear stake pocket.
